New iLife and iWork suites!

Postby amon91 » Tue Aug 07, 2007 7:49 pm

Apple released today new versions of iLife and iWork. These programs now come with new features and a much simplified UI.
iLife has a dramatically improved GUI in all its programs and iWork adds a new spreadsheet application (like Microsoft Excel), called Numbers.
Also, the .Mac service was updated to add a better integration to iLife '08 and "extend" it. More storage space and the Web Gallery feature are just a few of those improvements.

Warning !!!

Please read this :
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1194

before installing iMovie 8 on your Mac...

As the app has been entirely rewritten,
- installing the new version will deactivate your existing plug-ins (iMovie! 6 plug-ins aren't compatible with iMovie! 8) ;
- a lot of users reports a kernel panic occuring at application's start ;
- some camrecorders that were managed aren't any longer ;
- You can't hear sound during video transfer from an HD or HDV cam ;
- thumbnails previews are truncated if photos have been edited.

Apple proposes to download iMovie 6 to people who got Macs with bundled iLife! 8...

Damn. That seems to be a very bad update :(
2011 : I'm no longer using PearPC... It was fun, though :) Thanks to all contributors !
By special request, the config-file generator is back online

iMovie is not very good because it requires a G5 processors!! All 2 year-old PowerBooks and iBooks won't be able to run this piece of software.
Maybe iMovie '08 works better on Leopard than o Tiger. 10.4.11 may increase the compatibility.
And what about the other Apps? Are they good... or just like iMovie?

The best for pearpc will be Imovie 2,3,4. There are not requires quartz extreme and multiprocessing. There are not semifunctional in pearpc. And they can be fully usable. Recently I was succesfully edited and created small video in imovie2.

I was disappointed when Apple released their all-new iMovie (iLife '08 suite), 'cause it works only on G5 and Intel-based Macs. I really need this application and now I'm not exactly sure what to do. I've also heard about "cracks" for iMovie, people saying they have iMovie working on older G4 processors after applying this patches from third-parties. I think I'll buy this new suite soon anyway, as I need a whole suite.

I alredy upgraded to iLife '08 and iWork '08. iWork '08 is excellent, could not be better: stable and powerful.
iLife '08 is really great but it's not 100% ready for what we call "production use".
