Guest,

change to g3 emulation, the graphics problems are related to the altivec G4 emulation.

i've tried that, it now seems to work much faster, more responsive. but the graphic problems haven't gone away. theres still this small black box in the upper right where spotlight has to be.

Thanks a lot, switching pearpc to g3 emulation (cpu_pvr = 0x00080300) did the trick with prasys' latest elite build. Now all menus are visible and the spotlight icon isn't black anymore.

This means that you create a new blank disk image, then set the following lines in your config file to:
[code:24d1524c75]pci_ide0_master_installed = 1
pci_ide0_master_image = "C:\path\to\newdiskimage.img" (Replace with the path to the newly created image)
pci_ide0_master_type = "hd"
pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1
pci_ide0_slave_image = "C:\path\to\restored\Tiger.img" (replace with the path to the image that you restored Tiger to in Step 1)
pci_ide0_slave_type = "hd"[/code:24d1524c75]

Gotcha

Postby hulstar » Fri May 06, 2005 6:26 pm

Sorry mr i did'nt intend on 'stealing your method'. Unfortunately I don't usually prowl message boards so I was not aware of our efforts, but I could see people getting upset and I only wanted to help. Ok? We haven't all got wonderfully large hard disks for files that aren't completely crucial! Does anybody have any info that could shed some light on the questions I raised earlier. Ps. Who is 'guest' anyway?

My problem may be that pear09 build doesn't work for me. I get an empty window where the gray apple startup window normally is, and the command window hangs at "can use hwres" or somwthing like that.

[quote="a178235":80e761cc4e]Both the ISO renamed to DMG, and the Toast DMG image of the DVD worked for me. Make sure you reread the instructions and follow them to the letter. Use the preformatted images and the PPC.EXE in Prasys's PEAR09.ZIP file. Also make sure you haven't made any typing mistakes in your configuration files.

Hmm. Maybe that's my problem - but I can't use PEAR09.zip. It starts to launch, but I never get any graphics in the ppc window - it stays as an invisible window showing only what's behind it.

Aw crap, it doesn't hang there, it actually hangs after the 4th group of "getStartBlock: 3 apple_free" commands.

I just tried to install Tiger from the DVD directly (no images) using 'nativecdrom' and it worked fine. I used the prasys 2 channel IDE build, set my panther install as IDE0PRI, my Tiger install destination as IDE0SEC, my DVD-RAM drive as IDE1PRI an used it in nativecdrom mode. You'll have to ignore the errors you get in the cmd window, they didnt seem to cause any problems.

I then booted my panther, ran the terminal command line to change 10.3 to 10.4 (bypassing base system error)... ran osinstall.pkg did a FULL install w/o errors, went into startup disk (in panther) change the boot disk to the new tiger install and restarted. I then changed the cfg file and reversed the ID0PRI and IDE0SEC img's. Booted Tiger and it seemed to work w/o hassle.

Then i had to goto work Mad , so when i get home ill post some more info.
