Tiger Won't Install!

Postby thomcooper » Sat Sep 29, 2007 3:13 pm

Hi,

I've managed to get Pear PC to work with the APE download thing, have managed to burn images of the tiger install disks (from my now defunkt g4 powerbook), & have managed to create a disk image.

I can load up Pear PC, & get past the first stage of the installation (which allows me to select my language). However, once I get to the next window I get an alert pop up saying that I cannot install the software on this computer. I then have the option to restart (which takes you back to the APE), or select a different startup disk (which is to try & boot from a network (which isn't applicable as I'm not on a Mac network)).

Any clues as to how I can get past this?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi

I've had a further hunt around the forum & have noticed that the problem is that I am using system recovery disks (which incidentally have OSX on them). I guess I never had any OSX install disks.

What a pain. If I go to my local Apple Store & buy the OSX Tiger upgrade disk, is that all I need, or is it like Windows upgrades, where you need a full older license?

I'd be greatful if you could tell me whether this is the correct product to buy:

Thanks

Yes, that should be right. Apple don't say if it's PowerPC or Intel, but from the comments I deduced that it's PowerPC.

The install disks were for a power pc g4 with the 1.5 chip.

I think I'll wait a few weeks for Leopard, as its supposed to be launched this month I think. I primarily want to run iweb. Do you know if iLife is bundled with the OS?

If I have to buy it as a separate, presumably I make an ISO of the iLife disk, once I've installed OSX, & run it as a slave ide in Pear PC?

Thanks

As far as I know you can't yet run Leopard in PearPC. It'll be a while before somebody does get it to work.
