Small Linux Distro

Planning to install on a P1 Computer (FRIENDS)...Just wanted to show him Linux (he is noob)...again his computer is toooooooo old. I will take a look at your suggestions , one by one

A lot of linux distros can work on a box like that.

My personal favroite is Knoppix.
It has KDE and is a live distro, so it doesn't run off the harddrive unless you install it that way.

I don't remember how much it took up.

Gnoppix would be good, but it is very buggy and when you try to install it on the HD, it can glitch up and reformat both of the hard drives.

I forgot about Peanut Linux. Very small very fast distro.

Suitable for older hardware.

For a P1, you should use something like Slackware with Xfce as the desktop

I suggest Slackware with Fluxbox :wink: Will be a little bit faster.

I did a gentoo stage1 install on my p1. Total installation time: somewhere around 3 weeks... Time to get crackin!
