Does pearpc overheat your processor?

I have a giant VAIO box, and PearPC is the [i:7d1b2f8262]only[/i:7d1b2f8262] application that gets the fan started.
I submit to Google, Google's ownership of the world, and what Google stands for.

If you use PearPC for rendering high-res 3D graphics and let it running during 36 hours with 0% idle time, and that your computer is in a narrow space in your desk with a running heater just besides with a dead CPU fan, it's possible that your CPU can fry.

If you need to run PearPC for long times, you can open your case and place a big fan just besides.

If you don't have a fan, but you have Windows 2000/XP, you can also use the hibernate feature. (Turning off your computer without losing any data).
Introducing Windows 95.
It has a trash can you can open and take things back out of again.

Imagine that.

Well i figured it out.. I was running without thermal grease. yes. bash me in the head with the idiot stick. I haven't ran pearpc yet since the fix but I noticed a 30 degree f drop. It's constantly under 98 degrees now.

A program can cause a CPU to run at full strength for a longer time than it has been, under these conditions if a cooling solution is insufficient, it will cause the CPU to overheat.

This is why I do not run d.net client anymore. Because it keeps your computer doing something all the time, and compis are no longer designed to be running full throttle the whole time.

I use CPUCOOL. It works great.

I also heard that only AMD processors would have this issue anyways since they tend to keep on running until they burn themselves out as to if it was an intel chip, they would shut down your PC cause of some protection thingy against burning out the intel chip. Pretty cool feature, but unless it's mobile M, I'll stick to AMD

Modern AMD chips will shutdown before they destroy themselves. I know this, because my chip was overheating once when I did some work to it, and somehow the CPU fan got unplugged, and it wasn't plugged back in.

Thus, my compi kept just shutting down, and I didn't quite know why. Until I found the plug for the CPU fan dangling.

All in all, the smoking AMD video from TomsHardware may have been sweet cool and awesome. AMD I think took the publicity to heart that their processors would rather kill themselves than give any worse performance.

Since any Barton (and newer) core got an energy saver extension (I guess PowerNow is by AMD) the CPUs will slow down and even stop working when they get hot. Unfortunately it's disabled on the MP and standard version. But the "Anti-Kill-Yourself" will work too.
