Guys, what's up with buying a [b:bdb790f85f]box fan[/b:bdb790f85f] and pointing that big thing straight to your hardware while the CPU box is open? Most box fans (some here in GA) are priced between $15 to $25. I mean, you get more wind power off a box fan than you would an internal CPU fan; I should know. Cool[/size:bdb790f85f]

The question is, how much of the "wind power" from the BIG box fan will reach the small projected area of the heat sink?

I find that having your case open is actually [u:2557cb7cf8]worse[/u:2557cb7cf8] for your cooling as it disrupts the airflow of your case that moves the warm air out.

I was thinking about setting the box fan to High while removing the CPU fans and placing them aside. Sit the box fan right near the open side of the CPU case and the box fan's wind and momentum might be enough to sweep the warm air out. I'll give it a try one day. On the other hand, never stop learning a thousand ways to keep your PC from overheating. Laughing[/size:49e3bbd922]

Maybe the temperature reading on a BIOS may not seem precise on one of my computers... P3-450, 512MB ram, when I turn it on, it normally feels like 80 to 90F. But my BIOS said "near 100". [/size:823458a08f]

Don't run without a heatsink/fan on your CPU! That's a very easy to way to permanently destroy your CPU!

Guru3, running most new P4 processors without any cooling and heatsink ends up frying the processor in what? 10-40 seconds.
I've never heard my fan run except when I turn it on: 3GHz P4, 512mb RAM, (256 PearPC Dedicated), 128mb video.
I love PearPC.

Many BIOSes have a shutdown feature. So when the CPU hits a certain temp (say 170F ) the computer will shutdown. I did the same damn thing as dfoesch.. whys this keep turning off... OHHH, derr..Usually the computer will reset or tuen off before the cpu melts, either because of a safety feature, or all the heat caused a glitch in the processing.

Another thing, always keep your CPU far away from a vent whether cold season for heat (which can definitely play a good role in heating up the PC quicker I assume) or the summer season for cold. [/size:8917d36870]
